The Brief

Key Features of the Modification

🚿 Fixed glass panel and shower curtain A 500mm by 2100mm fixed glass panel, with a 2m by 2m curtain on a rail across the rest of the opening. The curtain lets a carer step in and help, while the panel keeps water off the vanity side.

🧱 Tiled floor and walls About 6 square metres of floor tile and 12 square metres of wall tile, chosen over vinyl once the scope was set.

💡 Safer, more practical electrics The light switch moved to the other side of the door, and a new power point went inside the vanity.

🪞 New vanity and basin

🚪 New door, architraves and hardware A new door on new hinges, new architraves and new door hardware.

💧 Two-coat waterproofing Applied over new underlay before any tiles went down.

🎨 Colour-matched painting New plaster and trims painted to match the existing walls, so the new work doesn’t stand out.

Collaboration & Timeline

The OT and our team met on site on 11 August 2026. Works started on 17 August: demolition, carpentry and plumbing rough-in, electrical rough-in, underlay, plaster and two coats of waterproofing. Floor and wall tiles came next, then carpentry, plumbing and electrical fit-off, painting, the glass panel, the shower and curtain, and a builders clean, with handover in late September.

Final Result

  • A bathroom planned to the OT’s advice, not adapted after the fact.

  • A shower set up for assisted use, with room for a carer.

  • Switches and power where they’re needed.
