Ramp and Accessibility Renovation in Hamlyn Heights, Victoria

Welcome to our presentation of an important home modification project in Geelong, a key step in our ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and comfort for those involved with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This project is an important example of our commitment to creating spaces that are not only functional but also warm and stylish.

Central to this project was the addition of a large new ramp at the front of the house, essential for ensuring easy access for the participant. To make the entrance more welcoming, we expanded the front door to a wide 1020mm, allowing for better access and a more inclusive atmosphere.

To enhance the flow of movement inside the home, we boldly opened up a wall to directly connect the front door to the living area. This architectural change makes moving around easier and helps connect different areas of the house, making everyday life more convenient and pleasant.

An important part of our work was installing a new floating floor throughout the residence. This was a strategic decision to remove steps and ensure level access with no thresholds, creating a space free of barriers. The careful choice of materials and colors was crucial in achieving a harmonious and visually appealing look, improving the home’s ambiance.

Focusing on maximum accessibility, we made significant changes to the bathroom. We widened the entrance for easier access and replaced the old shower base. A new window was added to bring in natural light, allowing for a spacious, level-entry shower at the end of the room that combines functionality with a touch of luxury.

For added safety and convenience, we installed grab rails in key areas of the bathroom. This provides stability and support where it’s most needed. A fold-down grab rail next to the toilet offers additional ease, reflecting our comprehensive approach to accessibility.

The color scheme selected for this project was pivotal in transforming the home’s atmosphere. We used neutral shades and white paint to make the space feel brighter and more welcoming. Working with the participant in choosing these elements ensured the space was not only practical but also reflected their personal style and preferences.
